Expressions of Interest: Consultant for Feminist Risk Research

The FHN is seeking a consultant to lead a critical research project that redefines “risk” through a feminist lens.

Current funding systems label Women’s Rights Organisations (WROs) as “too risky” and shut them out of funding. AWID’s 2021 report shows that 99% of development aid and foundation grants never reach WROs directly. Why? Rigid donor risk frameworks. This exclusion is most dangerous in humanitarian crises, where WROs are leading on the ground but are still not funded.

The FHN is pushing back. We're redefining risk through a feminist lens, centring justice, equity, and the real work that feminist actors are already doing in crisis response. This research will centre the lived realities of feminist movements and WROs, especially in humanitarian contexts shaped by climate crises, conflict, and structural inequality.

What You'll Do

  • Analyse existing risk frameworks in the aid and humanitarian sectors.

  • Conduct participatory research with WROs and feminist actors globally.

  • Develop a feminist report on risk, with actionable recommendations for donors and policymakers.

  • Lead dissemination and advocacy to shift sector norms and funding flows.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Expertise in feminist and decolonial research methods.

  • Strong experience in humanitarian and development sectors, especially with WROs.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate research into policy and advocacy.

  • Global South consultants and those with lived experience are especially encouraged to apply..
